Can you tell me about the materials used in making each piece?

Gold

DJK Goldsmiths uses 100% recycled gold, refined into pure assayed 24 Karat gold. Dennis then alloys the pure fine gold to the desired karat to work into each piece.

Silver

DJK Goldsmiths has chosen to use Arctic Fox™ anti-tarnish silver. 92.70% in purity. It is slightly higher in pure silver content than standard Sterling Silver at 92.50%. The anti tarnish qualities of this silver considerably reduces tarnishing, but by nature, all silver will gain the natural darker patina finish. This can enhance the look of a piece, or can be minimized with periodic cleaning with a jewellery cleaning cloth.

Jade

For thousands of years jade has been cherished for its purity, and endurance. Carefully chosen, select grade “A” BC Jade possesses an incredibly rich emperor green colour without comparison.

BC Nephrite Jade is comprised of metamorphic rocks, made up of tiny interlocking mineral crystals with a MOHS hardness factor of 6.0-6.5.  For comparison, diamond has a hardness of 10.0 whereas steel has a hardness factor of 4.0-4.5

Diamonds

All diamonds set into DJK Goldsmiths creations are full cut, conflict free, Canadian diamonds.

Is each piece stamped or hallmarked?

Yes! Each DJK creation is stamped with thr registered trademark KANGAS (from the artists surname Kangasniemi) and has been the registered hallmark used by the family for decades. Metal content is stamped accordingly. For example 14kt (58% pure gold) or 18kt (75% pure gold) and 925 for silver components.

What is White, Black and Rose gold?

As an element, pure gold is deep yellow. There is no such thing as pure white or black gold.

White gold – To achieve a white colour the pure 24 karat is mixed with white metal alloys such as nickel and zinc.
Black gold – Black gold refers to a surface finish/patina applied to yellow karat gold to achieve dark gray or black coloration.
Black gold – Rose or pink gold is achieved by using copper and silver as part of the karat reducing alloys.
